Kirinyaga Water and Sanitation Company (KIRIWASCO) is a registered Company limited by guarantee and contracted by Tana Water Services Board (TWSB) to run the following water Supply Schemes: Ndia, Kerugoya, Sagana, and Wang’uru. The Company’s area of jurisdiction is over 500km2 with a population of about 350,000 and about 150 members of staff.
KIRIWASCO, in its pursuit to be the best Water and Sanitation Services Provider in Kenya, is inviting applications
from suitably experienced and qualified candidates for the following posts:
Commercial Manager
General
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Commercial Manager will ensure that all financial resources of the Company
are well managed, prudently invested, fully accounted for and reported efficiently.

The specific duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Establish and ensure compliance with the financial and management systems for the effective implementation of the Company’s goals and policies
  • Ensure efficient billing, revenue collection, disbursements, accounting and reporting.
  • Oversee preparation of budgets and periodic financial performance reports for the Company.
  • Prepare budgetary control reports
  • Financial controlling
  • Advice Managing Director on the financial viability of proposed projects and investments
  • Ensure compliance to accounting standards on financial reporting by the Company.
  • Ensure the Company complies with all contractual financial obligations
  • Prepare Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Ensure that the Company adheres to the procurement laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Manage accounting support staff by giving them specific performance targets.
  • Any other functions relating to financial management as may be assigned from time to time by the Managing Director.
Job Specifications
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Commerce Degree, preferably in Accounting/Finance Option, or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • A Certified Public Accountant – CPA (K)
  • Registration as an Accountant will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a medium or large commercial environment, preferably in the Water Sector. Three (3) years should be in a senior position.
  • This job requires a good understanding and experience in all aspects of accounting and financial management.
  • Good knowledge of computerized financial systems.
  • Ability to negotiate budgets at the highest levels
  • Conversant with The Public Procurement and Disposal Act 2005 and The Public Procurement and Disposal Regulations 2006.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet strict deadlines is mandatory.
  • Aged between 30-45 years.
Technical Manager
General
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Technical Manager will ensure that all the technical resources of the Company are well managed.
The specific duties and responsibilities will be to:
  • Directing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring and managing the Company’s technical operations and ensuring good operation and maintenance of infrastructure for quality water and sanitation services
  • Ensuring that the water is treated and that the quality meets WHO Standards
  • Ensuring that the Unaccounted For Water (UFW)/Non-Revenue Water (NRW) is reduced to acceptable levels
  • Ensuring proper management of the technical assets
  • Developing departmental strategies, targets, policies, procedures and plans to facilitate achievement of overall Company’s objectives
  • Taking responsibility for the training, development and motivation of the departmental staff
  • Ensuring that the needs of the customers are effectively met
  • Any other related duties allocated by the Managing Director
Job Specifications
  • B.SC Civil/Water Engineering from a reputable University. Those registered with professional bodies will have an added advantage
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant post qualification working experience in a busy water sector institution, three (3) of which must be in senior position
  • Have demonstrated ability to manage water and sanitation utilities with sound innovations
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative
  • Good report writing, communication skills and a team player
  • Conversant with The Public Procurement and Disposal Act 2005 and The Public Procurement and Disposal Regulations 2006.
  • Must be computer literate. AutoCAD knowledge will be an added advantage
  • Aged between 30-45 years.
Qualified candidates for all positions will be employed on a three-year (3) performance contract basis, renewable upon meeting the performance targets.
