Title: Group Financial Controller
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Hemingways Holdings is the Kenyan based holding company that owns Hemingways Resort and Express Travel Group.
The Group is involved in high class tourism and travel and wishes to centralise its financial affairs as it expands and invests in Kenya and elsewhere.
The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring this centralisation process is implemented successfully.
The successful applicant will also need to be entrepreneurial as well as a fully qualified accountant, but knowledge of the tourism industry in East Africa is not a pre-requisite.
Reporting promptly and concisely to the Directors through hands on management of accounts staff throughout the Group will be of paramount importance.
Overall purpose of the job:
  • To provide effective operational financial planning, monitoring, accounting and weekly reporting
  • To ensure effective internal control procedures
  • To actively participate in expansion planning and provide entrepreneurial input on such expansions
Key responsibilities:

  • Financial accounting and reporting of group of companies activities
  • Establish new operational control procedures
  • Monitor and enforce operational and internal control procedures
  • Production of statutory accounts
  • Point of contact responsibility with external auditors
  • Consolidation of Group Accounts
  • Involvement in Group Tax Planning
  • Financial planning budgeting & forecasting
  • To undertake other duties as required by the Chief Executive Officer from time to time
  • To work flexibly with other members of the team
Person specification:
Essential:
  • Degree from a recognised University, preferably in Finance or a related field
  • A recognised professional accounting qualification as a member of CPA(K), and / or an international qualification such as ACA, CA or ACCA
  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in senior financial management
  • Ability to initiate and implement change
  • Ability to work flexibly, under pressure, and to meet demanding deadlines, including the ability to prioritise and manage conflicting demands
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent IT knowledge, including ability to develop accounting and other systems
Desirable:
  • Masters Degree in Finance or a related field — added advantage
  • Managerial experience
  • Knowledge of Hotel and Tours /Travel accounting packages
