Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP), Kenyan Civil Society Strengthening Program (KCSSP) Job Vacancy

KCSSP provides grant funding and capacity-building support to Kenyan civil society organizations (CSO) working in democracy and governance, natural resources management and peace-building. Pact, Inc. provides all sub-awards under the program and provides capacity-building and other non-financial support through a separate sub-award to Pact Kenya.
Purpose of the Position
The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will support the Chief of Party in ensuring the delivery of high-quality activities under the KCSSP program. The DCOP will focus particularly in the areas of program coordination and information management, through regular coordination with the KCSSP staff provided by Pact’s implementing partner, Pact Kenya.
The DCOP will plan, organize, and provide leadership and coordination for the proper execution of Pact program activities in line with the organization’s principles, standards, approaches platform and program frameworks and strategic plan. The post holder will be a member of Pact’s senior management team in Kenya and will contribute to organizational policy, direction and decision making. This position is open to Kenyan nationals, to be based in Nairobi with occasional travel to the field.
Other responsibilities include:

  • Participate in design and implementation of all program activities, including review of proposals and program documents.
  • Coordinate all program information flows, both internally for program management purposes and to external audiences, including but not limited to the donor.
  • Ensure required reports are produced in a timely manner as specified in the award documents.
  • Assist the COP in leading the team to ensure program efficiency is effectively monitored, as well as ensure program outcomes and impact are effectively evaluated.
  • Liaise with Pact Kenya program managers to ensure program integration and synergies within the program components.
  • Provide direct feedback on potential improvements to programs, reviewing activities and providing programmatic input on new directions.
  • Mentor and build the managerial capacity of all staff under direct line management and ensure they provide the same support to their respective teams and delegate tasks for the efficient performance of activities
  • Participate in staff recruitment, induction planning and formulation of staff personal development plans
  • Represent the COP to external stakeholders during absences or as otherwise required.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in social science, political science, development studies or equivalent level of experience.
  • 5-10 years of project management experience, including budget oversight, grants management, program design and proposal development, reporting and relationship building.
  • Knowledge of democracy and governance, natural resources management and peace building related programs.
  • General knowledge of organizational development, capacity building, and monitoring, evaluation and reporting for tracking program efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Team leadership skills essential
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, as well be able to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team, in a fast—paced environment requiring multi-tasking and work under pressure.
