African Union Senior Finance Officer Jobs

The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership Worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of its organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.
Job Title: Senior Finance Officer
Grade: P3 Number of Vacant Positions: Three (3) Supervisor: Director, Programming, Budgeting, Finance and Accounting
Directorate: Directorate of Programming, Budgeting, Finance and  Accounting Duty Station: Addis Ababa
Major duties and responsibilities:
  • Review and improve Financial Recording and Monitoring processes to ensure efficient and effective systems;
  • Ensure proper functioning of the AUC accounting system;
  • Maintain a financial reporting calendar and ensure timely preparation of all financial reports;
  • Provide advice and ensure compliance with Financial regulations and other determined financial policies;

  • Ensure that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained accurately;
  • Promote best practices, transparency, accountability and appropriate working systems;
  • Ensure effective and efficient utilization of financial resources;
  • Prepare Financial Statements for consideration of the Commission, Member States and Partners as well as internal/external auditors;
  • Prepare the year-end financial statements which form part of the annual financial reports;
  • Effectively Supervise junior staff, and;
  • Perform any other relevant duty/responsibility assigned.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates must have at least a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Financial Management or Commerce. A professional qualification in Accounting such as CPA, CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent from a recognized Institution will be an added advantage.
Work experience: Candidates must have at least 8 years of relevant work experience in Accounting, Auditing and/ or Financial Management of which at least 3 years should be at middle management level.
Other Skills:
  • Financial management and analytical skills;
  • Knowledge of funding and other resource mobilization mechanisms;
  • Development of procedures and Computerized System design and implementation skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, report writing and communication skills;
  • Excellent computer skills with practical knowledge of and experience in accounting softwares
Language Requirement: Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages is a requirement; Knowledge of one or more of the other AU working languages would be an added advantage.
Age requirement: Candidates must preferably be between 30 and 45 years old.

Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$33,619.00 per annum plus other related entitlements- e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($14, 414.40 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the commission.
