The Roving Lab Supervisor will be required to perform the following key duties:-
  • Ensure that the relevant MOH guidelines are implemented in all laboratories and assess the gaps in the MOH guidelines necessitating internal guidelines;
  • Assess the training needs of the existing lab staff and address the needs with appropriate inputs;
  • Review the GOAL SS laboratory training curriculum for Lab Assistants and training for the rational use of lab services for health workers;
  • Establish and develop rural laboratory services initially 2 laboratories and thereafter whenever required;
  • Supervise and build the capacities on the local staff on lab stocking, including ordering, keeping records and maintaining correct consumption of supplies and ensuring the monthly consumption is reported to the AHM who is responsible to forward the consumption data to the Pharmacy Assistant;
  • Provide technical inputs in programme planning;
  • Provide support to the medical team for monitoring the impact of the programme if necessary and specifically on the areas related to the quality of Laboratory services.
  • Support the PHC team in analysing the effectiveness of the Rapid Diagnostic Test for Malaria through a controlled comparison of the Negative RDTs with the results of blood films for Malaria Parasites.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination with the curative team;
  • Ensure that lab data are properly collected by the lab team and handed over to the AHM/AAHM;
  • Analyse monthly and quarterly the lab data;
  • Update monthly and quarterly the PHC CO and the AHMs about the lab services HIS of all areas of operation.
  • Travel frequently 90% of each rotation to all areas of operations to support the PHC teams.
Requirements
  • Diploma Holders in Medical Laboratory Sciences. HND an added advantage
  • Training of the trainers a must
  • At least 2 years previous working experience with PHC programmes in laboratory services
  • Staff management experience and good inter-personal skills required
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • IT literate
