RESEARCH ASSISTANT - UNDP

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Tanzania intends to recruit a Research Assistant. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Economics Advisor of the United Nations Development Programme, and will be located in the Country Office, Dar es Salaam .

DUTIES:
• :. Assist in developing and maintaining computerized country database for a range of economic and social variables on a time-series basis for supporting research and publications;
.:. Provide research assistance to the Economics Advisor and other economists and professional staff in the preparation of research papers and / or studies/reports undertaken as well as other documents by updating and computerizing database relating to a variety of economic and social indicators from national and international sources;
.:. Assist the Economics Advisor and other economists and professional staff in making use of IT for the purposes of (i) extraction of data from the database, (ii) designing computation plans, performing mathematical computations and preparing diagrams/charts/graphs using various software packages;
.:. Liaise with relevant government and private institutions, including regular visits to collect data and update the country office data base as appropriate for research. maintain research files and documents for future use;
.:. Perform any other related functions as may be assigned .
QUALIFICATIONS

• :. Bachelors degree in Economics/Finance/Statistics or related field and substantial skills in data processing packages .
• :. Six years of progressively responsible experience in applied statistics, quantitative economic analysis and operation of data processing;
.:. Knowledge of database management packages as well as programming interfaces will be an added advantage
.:. Excellent Communication Skills in both spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
