Project Officer Catholic Relief Services –USCCB Jobs in Kenya

Catholic Relief Services –USCCB is the official agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for relief and development overseas. CRS supports programs in over 100 countries and works through local partners.
We are seeking suitable persons to fill the following position.
All candidates require technical competencies in the respective areas, excellent computer skills, oral and written communication skills, willingness to travel to the field frequently and a commitment to work with and support faith based partners of CRS many of whom are Catholic institutions.
Position: Project Officer – Water and Sanitation (Ref.2010/21) Location: Nairobi with at least 75% field travel
Purpose: The Officer will support the CRS Water & Sanitation (WATSAN) Unit and various partners in implementing Community Based Water Hygiene and Sanitation Projects. S/he is expected to work closely with other CRS  programming units (Agriculture, Micro Finance, HIV/AIDS and Justice and Peace) in the implementation of integrated projects. Other key function includes building the capacity of partner staff implementing community based water and sanitation projects in Kenya.
The Officer will ensure program conformance with participatory development approaches consistent with the prevailing policies of the government and donors.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to partner organizations in key areas of WATSAN programming which include Hygiene, Sanitation and community management of rural water supplies.
  • Provide support in the planning and facilitating technical workshops and training.
  • Review financial and technical monthly reports
  • Conduct regular project monitoring and give feedback
  • Participate in the preparation of work plans and budgets.
  • Documentation of lessons learnt and best practices
  • Develop new program initiatives and proposals in line with identified needs
  • Participate in project studies, assessments & evaluations and quarterly progress review meetings.
  • Attend monthly partner learning meetings and GoK sectoral coordination meetings (e.g. District Water & Environmental Coordination – WESCOORD)
Qualifications
  • A Bachelors degree in Public Health or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working on community-based water, hygiene and sanitation projects, in an NGO setting.
  • Proven experience in training using participatory adult learning methodologies
  • Ability to work well with others and with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Good knowledge of water and sanitation policy framework
