Project Assistant, Enterprise Development – based in Kisumu

Practical Action is an international development agency working with poor communities to help them choose and use technology to improve their lives today and in generations to come. 
We are seeking to recruit a results-oriented and proactive team player to fill the following position: 
Project Assistant, Enterprise Development – based in Kisumu 
Reporting to the Project Manager (“People’s Plans into Practice” project), the successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical assistance in enterprise development and business mentorship in relation to the water, sanitation, waste management and shelter work taking place across the wider programme of infrastructure services in urban areas. 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Provide technical skills and capacity building to the project team on enterprise development
  • Support CBOs with business skills development and mentorship in water, sanitation, waste management and shelter enterprises
  • Establish community SACCO schemes and linkages between CBOs, SMEs and micro-finance institutions
  • Conduct needs assessments and other surveys as required
  • Carry out an analysis of markets and value chains in water, sanitation, waste management and shelter
  • Monitor and evaluate the PPP project’s activities with a view to informing the implementation process
  • Implement work plans/activity logs as prepared in consultation with the Project Manager
  • Carry out community/project beneficiaries training with a view to creating awareness, building capacity building and developing community ownership of the projects
  • Prepare accurate and timely activity reports

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Education: at least a diploma in Business/Enterprise Development or any other relevant field
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in business development and community mobilization

   OTHER COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to think strategically and function well even under pressure
  • Proven written and communication skills
  • Good command of spoken and written English and fluency in Kiswahili
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
