Logistics Assistant: Save the Children Jobs in Kenya

Save the Children has a long history of engagement in Somalia and in Somaliland stretching as far back as 1954.

In more recent times (since 1992) Save the Children UK has maintained an operational office in Hiran Region in what is now called the Central South Zone of Somalia (CSS).

Since 2000, both Save the Children Denmark and Save the Children UK have been working in Somaliland. In 2004, Save the Children UK established an office in Puntland State in response to the Tsunamis and continues to undertake programmes from this office while Save the Children Denmark in Puntland works through partners.

In the past two years Save the Children Finland has been financially supporting the work of both Save the Children Denmark and Save the Children UK in Somalia/Somaliland.

qualified Kenyan nationals for the position of Logistics Assistantbased in Nairobi:

Job Purpose

The Logistics Assistant for Save the Children has the responsibility to assist in with the delivery of timely, effective and accountable logistics support to Save the Children Somalia/Somaliland Programme in Nairobi & field offices.

Key accountabilities

  • To be responsible for the stores management and implementation of systems.
  • Monitor office stock levels and advise on appropriate stocking and replenishment to meet project demands.
  • Ensure appropriate packing and loading of materials for dispatch and supervise material loading, and unloading.
  • Assist the Logistics Officer in ensuring that local, national and international procurement practices are compliant with Save the Children and donor regulations.
  • Assist the Logistics Officer in planning reliable and timely transportation of freight to Somalia/Somaliland.
  • Track and confirm delivery of goods to their final destination.
  • Update and maintain the asset register and ensure that all assets are logged and issued with a unique asset number.
  • Responsible for ensuring each item is stored in the appropriate manner, is easy to access and has an updated stock card /Bin Card including minimum reorder level.
  • Maintain a complete filing system to include all documentation e.g. GRNS, inventories, way bills, packing lists, distribution reports etc.
  • Ensure that any incoming items match the waybill, LPO and advise the Logistics Officer of any exceptions and to issue Goods Received Notes (GRN’s) for any items received.
  • Ensure the stores are kept in a good reparative order, are kept locked and are clean and tidy.
  • To produce monthly stock reports of all movements of stock in and out of the store.
  • Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child protection, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.
Person specification

  • Appropriate qualifications in logistics or related field.
  • Experience in procurement of goods/services and stock management
  • Computer skills especially in MS Excel & MS Word
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Proactive and result-oriented.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children aims, values and principles.
