Kito International Kenya is currently organizing for our proof of concept pilot and seeks experienced professionals to assist in its launch, development and growth. Our goal is to reach 10,000 East African street youth within the next three years.
 

Position Description


Kito International’s Social Worker will be directly responsible for firstly managing the healthy development of Kito youth as entrepreneurs and agents of social change, secondly supporting the Kenya staff in delivering trainings, reporting the progress of Kito youth and developing scaling strategies for intake and thirdly help manage compliance, monitoring and evaluation of the Kito International Kenya office operations its programs.
 

Youth Development



• Providing Kito youth encouragement, advice and mentorship and assisting youth in handling stress, emotional problems or issues that may arise throughout the course of the program.
 
• Cultivating an environment in which youth feel comfortable to communicate their needs, wishes, concerns, aspirations, goals and dreams.
• Working with youth to set personal, entrepreneurial and community goals and setting realistic monthly targets.
• Ensuring all Kito youth are equipped with or have access to services to qualified psychologists or other health practitioners.
 
• Conducting trainings as designated in conjunction with Kito International Kenya staff.

Organizational Development & Outreach


• Fostering a culture of trust, listening, safety and inclusion at Kito International offices.
• Serving as a liaison to the local community, government ministries, rehabilitation centers, partner NGOs working with street kids and youth, and street youth bases.
 
• Understanding the complexities and changing need of youth living and working on the streets, maintaining a thorough understanding of services offered to street youth in Kenya.
• Facilitate marketing & recruiting of Kito International and its programs to potential youth participants and managing the Kito International vetting process.
 

Reporting & Operations


• Managing the attendance and reporting records of Kito International staff and youth.
• Evaluating the attainment of youth’s personal, entrepreneurial and community goals and communicating such to Kito Senior Management.
 
• Managing local and international volunteers, conducting brief trainings orienting new talent to Kito International, Kito Kenya’s code of conduct, and delegating work that capitalizes on volunteer talents.
 
• Managing community mentors and ensuring they are oriented to Kito International and are trained on Kito Kenya’s code of conduct, peer counseling and best practices of mentorship.
 

Qualifications



Candidates for the Social Worker role should have a passionate commitment to solving the street youth crisis, a strong background in youth development, and excellent communication skills. Strong candidates will have strong organizational skills and an ability to manage and deliver projects independently and proactively.

• A passionate commitment to Kito International’s mission of investing in street youth as entrepreneurs
• At least three years experience in the private and/or non-profit sector
• A proven ability to manage/execute
• Ability to delegate responsibilities effectively
• Ability to look at situations from several points of view
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to produce written and oral analysis and reports in a clear and succinct manner to Kito International management
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a team and successfully interact with youth beneficiaries, staff, the community and other Kito stakeholders
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili. Knowledge of other East African languages is a plus.
• Competency with computers.
