Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI)/Walter Reed Project, HIV Program Kericho carries out HIV/AIDS research
and provide care and treatment to persons affected in the South Rift Valley region. We are seeking to recruit qualified
persons to fill the following vacant positions:
1. Research Pharmacist
(One Post)
Key Responsibilities:
The Pharmacist will assist in the management of all aspects of pharmaceutical operations (e.g. drug procurement and
importation, appropriate storage and disposition of study products, drug accountability and inventory, dispensation,
rational drug use, medication use counseling, compliance to good clinical practice regulations, formulation and
implementation Pharmacy policies) relating to both research, clinical care and HIV programs in Kericho.
The incumbent will assist the clinical team by providing pharmaceutical expertise in the management of research participants. The officer may be called upon to provide mentorship and training to members of the care and research team.
Minimum qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience in Clinical Pharmacy.
  • Experience in HIV/AIDS care and management, and/or research protocols.
  • Competence in computer operations.
  • Experience in computer-based drug database(s) is an added advantage.
2. Research Administrator
(One Post)
Key Responsibilities:
The incumbent will oversee the operations of the transport section and provision of logistics support to research studies.
He/she will be responsible for the Program buildings/offices and office equipments. He/she will ensure smooth and
uninterrupted provision of services. He /she will oversee the operations of the front office and act as the Program’s public relations officer. The incumbent will also oversee catering, housekeeping and gardening sections.
He / she may be called upon to represent the Program in external meetings and will be in charge of all HIV Program visitors. The incumbent may be called upon to compile Program reports.
Minimum Requirements:
  • A degree in Business Administration or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must have a minimum five years experience in a similar position.
  • Must be computer literate.
3. Assistant IT Manager
(One Post)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Rapid application development
  • System analysis and design
  • Programming
  • Database creation and maintenance
2. Network setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of network equipment.
3. Microsoft Windows Network administration and user support. MS Active Directory, MS Exchange, DHCP, DNS, ISA
etc).
Specific tasks will include:
  • Managing the network
  • Setting up users in the network
  • Provide user training and general support in network use
  • E-mail setup
  • Ensure effective use of application softwares
4. Manage the IT inventory and advise the organization on IT hardware/software to procure.
5. Installation of new hardware/software as well as maintenance of existing hardware/software.
6. Back up data into backup media and securing them
7. Prepare, review and update Standard Operating Procedures and policies for the unit and its partners.
8. Setup and manage barcode printing as stipulated by the laboratory and /or research protocols
9. Provide data and IT Support to all running and upcoming research protocols.
10. Work with the IT Manager in the management of IT activities and resources within the unit.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field (information technology, information systems, business information systems, information sciences, computer science)
  • Professional training in MCSD or MCSE
  • At least 2 years experience in a busy IT environment
  • Proficiency in Visual Basic and relational databases is required
Additional Requirements:
  • CCNA
  • Experience in clinical trials research is an added advantage
  • Ability to nurture good working relationships with the partner hospitals
  • Good team worker with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
