Kenya Film Commission Jobs in Kenya: Chief Executive Officer and Legal Services Manager

Kenya Film Commission, a State Corporation under the Ministry of Information and Communications, mandated to facilitate the development of a vibrant film industry in Kenya and to market the country’s filming locations locally and internationally, with its offices in Nairobi, seeks to recruit dynamic, visionary and innovative persons to fill the following 2 positions:
Chief Executive Officer

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer will provide leadership to the management team; ensure the development of a robust local film industry and market Kenya as
the preferred destination for film production in Africa.
Job Profile:

  • Advising the government on matters pertaining to development, coordination, regulation and promotion of the film industry in Kenya;
  • Facilitating the provision of content development, funding and investment for film projects; operating a special fund; undertaking comprehensive and continuous assessment; and ensure resolutions of the needs and problems of the film industry;
  • Overseeing the promotion, monitoring and evaluation of the progress on all aspects and activities of the film industry in the country;
  • Encouraging marketing, distribution, exhibition and dissemination of Kenyan films
  • Ensuring proper keeping of Film Archives;
  • Marketing Kenya as a centre of excellence in film production locally and internationally;
  • Facilitate investment in the infrastructure of the film industry;
  • Providing leadership to the management team and ensuring the staff are adequately trained and motivated;
  • Oversee the development, implementation and regular revision of the Commission’s Corporate strategy and policies;
Person’s Profile:
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study;
  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Marketing or a related social science;
  • Post graduate diploma in Film Production, Mass Communication, Journalism is an added advantage;
  • Have current international networks and outstanding knowledge of both local and international film industries;
  • Have marketing orientation with good understanding of film production;
  • Over seven (7) years practical experience in the film industry or a related field, five (5) of which should be in a senior management position in a busy organization or Government department;
  • Demonstrated business, managerial, administrative and fundraising skills;
  • Be result-driven with proven organizational development skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Proficiency in computer application packages.
  • Must not in any way have conflict of interest with the position advertised
This appointment is on a three (3) year renewable term, with the signing of annual performance contract.
Legal Services Manager

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the officer will provide guidance on film industry legislation and policy framework for optimum development of the Kenyan film industry
Job Profile:
  • Formulation and implementation of a Corporate Legal Policy to ensure that the Commission complies with all applicable statutory requirements and related codes of regulations;
  • Facilitate review of the existing film laws for the growth of the film industry;
  • Guide the stakeholders on the application of the film laws;
  • Developing legal agreements such as film funding agreements between the Commission and its partners and stakeholders;
  • Advising on film co-production treaties and other legal issues;
  • Representing the Commission in all legal related forums;
  • Advising the Commission on all legal matters;
  • Taking Board minutes as and when required
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Person’s Profile:

The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • Bachelor degree in law from a recognized institution
  • Advocate of the High Court with current practicing certificate
  • Masters degree in Laws preferably in Entertainment law or Copyright Law, social sciences or business is an added advantage
  • A CPS (K) or equivalent
  • Over 5 years experience 2 of which should be in a senior position in a busy organization, government department or law firm
  • Possess business, managerial and administrative skills
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in computer application packages
