FARM-Africa is an international NGO committed to improving the lives of marginal farmers & herders through innovative natural resource management approaches.

We are currently seeking to recruit 2 national staff members for our new “Aquaculture Research Into Use: Building Services, Sharing Best Practice and Supporting Policy” (Aqua Shops) Project in Nyando District, Western Kenya.

Project Coordinator 
(Ref: AS/PRO)

Purpose:
  • To manage the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of all aspects of the Aqua Shops Project.
  • To represent the Aqua Shops Project and FARM-Africa to the District, Provincial and national government and to the project consortium partners.
Key responsibilities:


  • To manage the project in accordance with project documents, work plans & budgets & ensure that work is consistent with FARM-Africa’s strategies & the conditions of donor contracts.
  • To line manage the project staff.
  • To explore & nurture mutually beneficial partnerships with other stakeholders.
Essential competencies Desirable competencies
  • Bachelor degree in a relevant subject
  • At least 3 years senior management experience
  • Knowledge of the fisheries sector in Kenya
  • Experience of working with commercial enterprises
  • Project & financial management
  • Negotiating & managing partner relationships
  • Participatory planning & monitoring
  • Report and proposal writing
  • Masters degree in fisheries/aquatic science
  • Knowledge and practical experience of market chain development
  • Policy influencing
  • Field level training
  • Capacity building of organisations/individuals
Project Officer 
(Ref: AS/OFF)

Purpose:
  • To take overall responsibility for the start-up of and support to the franchises established under the Aqua Shops Project.
Key responsibilities:
  • To establish the Aqua Shops franchise scheme.
  • To disseminate best aquaculture development practices in relevant languages to prospective and current fish farmers.
  • To identify and document priorities for policy change to improve opportunities for aquaculture development.
Essential competencies Desirable competencies
  • Relevant diploma level qualification
  • Knowledge of the fisheries sector in Kenya
  • At least 2 years relevant work experience
  • Field level training
  • Participatory planning, monitoring & evaluation
  • Report and proposal writing
  • Bachelors degree in fisheries/aquatic science
  • Experience of working with commercial enterprises
  • Previous NGO work experience in rural development
  • Data collection, entry & analysis
  • Capacity building of organisations/individuals
  • Negotiating & managing partner relationships
