Originally established in the UK in 1995 by Southern Sudanese refugees and British friends, Skills for Southern Sudan is now based in Juba, Southern Sudan. It provides training to individuals in order to develop the leadership and professional capacity of government institutions and civil society organisations.
Two themes underpin all its work: gender equity and good governance.
The trustees of SKILLS seek to appoint a Director with the necessary experience and skills to enable the organisation to respond to the challenges of building human resources in Southern Sudan during a period of potential political  change.

Purpose of the Position

To provide broad oversight to Skills’ activities, leading on advocacy and key relationships with Boards, staff and other stakeholders and monitoring the managem ent of resources in alignment with Skills’ Strategic Plan.
The Director is ultimately responsible to the Board of Trustees in the UK but reports on a day to day basis to the Management Board in Juba.
Location: Juba, Southern Sudan

Minimum Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters degree
  • Post graduate training in project planning and management, public administration, finance, human resources management and resource mobilization.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior management position, leading an organisation with multiple staff and programmes
Essential qualities
  • Proven skills in strategic planning, programme design, fund raising
  • Experience in civil society development and public sector capacity building
  • Experience in a post conflict environment, particularly in Southern Sudan is a major asset
  • Experience with bilateral and multilateral funding mechanisms is an asset
Competences
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Highly developed networking and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication, negotiation and administrative skills
  • Charismatic people motivator, team leader and team player
  • Fluency in Arabic and other Sudanese language is a major asset
