The Aga Khan University - Advanced Nursing Studies Programme (AKU – ANS) was developed in consultation with the nursing councils and the Ministries of Health and Education of the governments of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda), to improve the managerial and clinical practices of nurses currently working throughout the region.
The programme provides career advancement opportunities for nurses generally and for women in particular.
AKU - ANS conducts two academic programs: Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Diploma (2 years) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2 1/2 years) courses. Our graduates are working in leadership positions nationally and regionally.
The AKU - ANS Programme invites applications for
the following position, based inKampala , Uganda : Academic Head
Reporting to the Foundation Dean, Nursing and Midwifery,Aga Khan University – East Africa, the Academic Head will provide educational and administrative leadership for the AKU – ANS Programme in Uganda
The main role will be the management of the educational programmes to ensure quality and smooth running of the campus’ operations in addition to academic planning.
S/he will play a major role in linking with the education community and external stakeholders, including the nursing council and the ministry of health.
S/he will also serve in academic committees within the University.
The ideal candidate should be registered with the Nursing Council of Uganda, with a PhD or a Masters degree in nursing. S/he should have a minimum of ten years clinical practice, teaching and academic leadership experience at an institution of higher learning and must demonstrate experience with curriculum and course development.
