Supporting Energy SMEs Programme Manager GVEP International (Global Village Energy Partnership)

GVEP-International is looking for a Programme Manager to support Energy Small and Medium Enterprises in selected countries in East and West Africa. The position is Nairobi based, and the candidate should have good managerial and communication skills.

A major focus of the position will be to strengthen the role of the private sector in energy delivery

Main Responsibility:
  • Liaise between government agencies, consultants and



    stakeholders to establish a portfolio of energy projects. To then lead and monitor a multi country staff team overseeing project implementation.
  • Responsible for budget monitoring, financial management and expenses control as well as programme reporting, all in compliance with donor requirements and ensuring that the necessary systems are in place.
  • Report to the Regional Manager Africa.
Other Responsibilities shall include:
  • Support entrepreneurs and investor in the creation of viable business solutions to meet the energy needs of people currently not served or underserved.
  • Build collaboration with stakeholders and provide inputs to policy advisors to create a viable private sector active in energy supply.
  • Leverage additional funding by exploring linkages with public and private funds, investment opportunities, carbon finance, etc.
Qualifications:

The candidate will be required to possess at least a Degree in a relevant subject area, e.g. engineering, business administration, energy policy.

Other essential qualifications:
  • Experience in the energy sector essential including project financing and investment, energy technology and the energy policy environment.
  • Experience with investment funds and working with Financial Institutions (development banks, commercial banks, microfinance).
  • Proven experience in project management, including budget expenditure, donor relations, reporting, proposal writing, staff management and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Solid and proven background in Project administration and management
  • Experience of working closely with international development cooperation or donor organisations, ensuring compliance with Grant Agreement requirements.
  • Proven experience in business management, financial management, and risk management as well as practical knowledge of small business/SME development and sustainable development/Corporate Social Responsibility issues.
  • Fluency is English is essential. The ability to speak and read French would be an advantage.
Other Requirements:
  • The Candidate should have a minimum of 5 Years Experience in Programme Management within donor funded programmes on energy related issues and working experience within East Africa region and or neighbouring countries.
  • Must be between 30 to 50 years of age
