General description of the role

The Pharmacy Assistant will be responsible for assisting the PHC coordinator and the Assistant PHC Coordinator in the overall management of the Pharmaceuticals in Nairobi. This position demands good essential drugs and medical items knowledge coupled with strong ability, desire and competence to coordinate.

The incumbent must have good management and interpersonal skills and ability to record and report accurately. She/he will be in charge of ensuring that the right drugs are purchased, appropriately stored and transported, follow up on the drugs, analyse the drug consumptions from the field and send back the summaries of the same to the field based staff, review the drug orders from the field as per the GOAL Drug List and ensures that the orders are as per the consumption

Key duties
  • Receive and analyse the monthly drug consumption data
  • Feeding back the field regarding their monthly drug consumptions and suggesting any needed actions to prevent drugs expiring on the shelves… The Pharmacy assistant will also give quarterly analysis of the drugs consumptions and improve the current consumption based system
  • Create a reorder level for all the drugs used in GOAL’s area of operation for each field sites within 6 months of assignment.
  • Review all the drug orders raised from the field before they are finally approved for purchase and shipment.
  • Ensuring that the pharmaceuticals and medical items purchased and transiting through Nairobi are thoroughly checked and that they conform to the specifications as per the Quotations.
  • The incumbent must be capable of providing trainings on proper pharmaceutical and dispensing procedures to the larger PHC team when called upon to.
  • Any other duties as directed by the PHC Coordinator and or the Assistant PHC Coordinator.
Requirements
  • Certificate in Pharmacy with at least 2 years post qualification working experience in an NGO or a busy pharmaceutical company. Must be registered by the relevant regulatory body to practice in Kenya.
  • Must be familiar with the current drugs regulation in Kenya
  • Must be familiar with the current drug register in Kenya
  • Computer literate: must be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel. MS Access an added advantage.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English
  • Must be able to self start.
  • Must be enthusiastic, keen to travel, and ready to work extra hours to achieve the objectives of the programme
