Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

Senior Lecturers

Applicants must be holders of a BSc. Engineering degree from a recognized university in any of the following areas;- Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Materials Engineering, Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field.

The applicants should also possess both MSc. & PhD degree from a recognized University in any of the following areas:- Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Safety Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.

In addition, the applicants must:-
  • Have at least five (5) years of University teaching, three (3) of which as a full–time Lecturer after PhD qualification.
  • Have successfully supervised at least three (3) Masters Students and one (1) PhD student since being appointed Lecturer.
  • Show evidence of continuing research including having published at least three (3) articles in refereed journals since being appointed Lecturer.
  • Show evidence of attendance and contribution at learned Conferences, Seminars or Workshops.
  • Show evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
  • Be able to be registered with the Engineer’s Registration Board (ERB)

Lecturers

Department of Water and Environmental Engineering

Senior Lecturers

Applicants must be holders of a BSc. Engineering degree in any of the following areas from a recognized university:- Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Water Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Public Health Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

The applicants should also possess both MSc & PhD.

Degree from a recognized University in any of the following areas:- Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Water Engineering, Public Health Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sanitation, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Technology, Geographical Information Systems or a related field from a recognized University.

In addition, the applicants must:-

Applicants must be holders of a PhD degree from a recognized university in any of the following areas:- Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Software Engineering with specialty in any of the following areas: Distributed Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems, High level Programming languages, Computer based Information and Communication Systems, Microprocessor Systems and applications, Compute Aided design manufacturing, Software Project Management.

In addition, the applicants should:-
  • Have at least five (5) years of University teaching, three (3) of which as a full–time Lecturer after PhD qualification.
  • Have successfully supervised at least three (3) Masters students and one (1) PhD student since being appointed Lecturer.
  • Show evidence of continuing research including having published at least three (3) articles in refereed journals since being appointed Lecturer.
  • Show evidence of attendance and contribution at learned Conferences, Seminars or Workshops.

In addition, the applicant should:-

Applicants must be holders of a MSc. degree in any of the following areas:- Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Software Engineering or a related discipline with specialty in any of the areas: Distributed Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems, High level Programming Languages, Computer Based Information and Communication Systems, Control Systems and automation, Microprocessor Systems and Applications, Compute Aided Design Manufacturing, Software Project Management.

Candidates who have at least two (2) years teaching experience at University level or equivalent will have an added advantage.

Teaching Assistants

Applicants must be holders of a BSc. Engineering degree (1st or upper 2nd class honours) from a recognized university in any of the following areas:- Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.

Those with any of the professional ICT certificates listed below will have an added advantage:- CISCO, MCSE, MCP, JAVA.

School of Pure and Applied Sciences

Department of Chemistry - Mombasa Campus

Lecturer

Applicants must be holders of a PhD degree from a recognized university or have successfully defended PhD thesis in any of the following areas: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry

In addition the applicants must have:
  • Presented at least three (3) seminar papers or has two (2) publications in refereed journals or a university level book by a reputable publisher.
  • Full time university teaching experience as tutorial fellow or assistant lecturer for at least three (3) years

Successful candidates will also be expected to teach these courses in Zoological Sciences Department as well.

Finance, Planning and Development Division

Estates Department

Civil/Structural Engineer

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.

In addition, the applicant must;
  • Have at least three (3) years post registration work experience in the construction industry.
  • Be registered Engineer with the Board of Engineers of Kenya or a member of a recognized professional body.

Duties:
  • Design and production of Structural and Civil working drawings for projects
  • Supervision of projects from inception to completion
  • Submission of Structural drawings to relevant authorities

Electrical Engineer

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.

In addition, the applicant must;
  • Have at least three (3) years post registration work experience in a consulting or construction firm.
  • Be a registered Electrical Engineer with the Board of Engineers of Kenya or a member of a recognized professional body.

Duties:
  • Design and production of Electrical working drawings for projects
  • Supervision of projects from inception to completion

Quantity Surveyor

Applicants must be holders of Bachelor of Arts, Degree in Building Economics from a recognized institution.

In addition, the applicant must:
  • Have at least three (3) years post registration work experience in a consulting or construction firm.
  • Be registered with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya.

Duties
  • Preparation of bills and/or schedules of Quantities of materials, labour and services required in the construction projects.
  • Preparation of valuation and of progress reports on construction projects.

Project Manager

Applicants must be holders of Masters of Science degree in Construction Management from a recognized institution. Holders of a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management with at least five (5) years experience and have supervised projects in a busy construction site will be considered.

Duties:
  • Supervise and coordinate construction projects

Graduate Architect
Grade E/F

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent qualification from a recognized university.

In addition the applicants must be able to: -
  • Prepare sketches/scheme designs
  • Produce of drawings
  • Interpret brief requirements and post contract administration

Senior Inspector of Works (Buildings)
Grade C/D

Applicants must be holders of KCE Div. II or KCSE C+ (Plus). They must be holders of Higher National Diploma in Building Construction or Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution and have at least three (3) years post qualification work experience in a large organization.

Holders of Ordinary Diploma in the relevant field with at least eight (8) years work experience will also be considered. Those with at least five (5) years work experience, as Clerk of Works on large Construction site will have an added advantage.

University Bookshop

Bookshop Manager

Applicants must be holders of a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing option)/Economics/ Library and Information Science or any other related field from a recognized university.

In addition the applicants must:
  • Have at least five (5) years relevant work experience in a busy Bookshop.
  • Be self driven, innovative, result oriented have a good communication skills.
  • Possess excellent IT skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • In charge of overall management of the Bookshop.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Bookshop policies.
  • Responsible for financial management of the bookshop.
  • Manage bookshop staff.
  • Perform physical and infrastructural management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.

Deputy Bookshop Manager

Applicants must be holders of a Master’s degree in the Business Administration (marketing option)/Economics/ Library and Information Science or any other related field from a recognized university.

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant work experience in a busy Bookshop
  • Be self driven, innovative, result oriented and have good communication skills
  • Process excellent IT skills

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deputize for the Bookshop Manager
  • Assist in the day-to-day running of the Bookshop
  • Supervise bookshop staff
  • Supervise use of physical and infrastructural resources.

University Printing Press

Press Manager
Grade 12

Applicants must be holders of a Master’s degree in printing related field or a Masters degree in Business Administration/Management and a Bachelors degree in printing related field from a recognized university.

In addition, the applicant must:-
  • Have at least five (5) years relevant work experience in a busy Printing Press
  • Be self driven, innovative, result oriented and have good communication skills
  • Possess excellent IT skills

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • In charge of overall management of the Printing Press.
  • Responsible for financial management of the Printing Press
  • Manage Printing Press staff
  • Perform physical and infrastructural management.
  • Manage procurement, marketing and sales of all resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time

Senior Technician
Grade E/F

Applicants must be holders of B.Sc. Degree in Printing related field from a recognized university.

Candidates with Higher National Diploma in printing related field from a reputable institution will also be considered.

In addition, applicants must:-
  • Have at least five (5) years relevant working experience in a busy Printing Press as a Technician
  • Be computer literate and demonstrate leadership and administrative skills

The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of all Printing Press equipment.

Technician
Grade C/D

Applicants must be holders of B.Sc. Degree in Printing related field from a recognized university.

Candidates with Higher National Diploma in printing related field from a reputable institution will also be considered.

In addition, applicants must:-
  • Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy Printing Press as a Technician
  • Be computer literate

The successful candidate will be involved in the maintenance of all Printing Press equipment.

Directorate of Grant Writing and Management

Senior Administrative Officer

Applicants must be holders of a PhD or Masters degree in a field closely related to or involving Project Planning/Management and Evaluation from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must:
  • Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience
  • Show evidence of a previous successful grant writing experience
  • Have in-depth experience with research and development in African countries and experience working with national, regional and international research organizations.
  • Show evidence of contribution to design of national and regional programmes, strategic planning and priority setting in previous roles.
  • Demonstrate experience in the design and implementation of National and Regional M & E programmes
  • Have proven record in raising substantial research and development funding, with successful proposal development and negotiations with investors.
  • Have proven record of building partnerships and strategic alliances.
  • Have strong experiences and exceptional skill and background in coordination and eliciting individual and group participation in joint endeavours.
  • Have management experience, especially in grant making and M & E.
  • Have excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal are required, with demonstrated ability to prepare written materials suitable to a variety of audiences.
  • Be familiar with electronic communications and standard office computer software.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Successful candidate will be expected to assist in the following:
  • Development of vision, mission, goals and strategies for the Directorate
  • Development of strategic and operational plans
  • Management of individual and University wide grants
  • Budgetary planning
  • Designing and managing a result-based M & E system, including impact assessment of the grant writing directorate
  • Organizing and conducting regular reviews and evaluation at different operational levels.

  • Identifying calls for proposals from different funding agencies

Assistant Librarian: E-Resources
Grade 12

Applicants must be holders of a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent from a recognized university.

In addition, the applicants must:
  • Have post qualification experience of at least three (3) years in a well organized institution Library.
  • Demonstrate skills in ICTs such as Internet, Web Design, Acrobat Adobe, Office packages, and other computer peripherals.

Archivist
Grade 12

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and a Master’s degree in Records and Archives Management from a recognized university.

In addition they must be:
  • Have post qualification experience of at least three (3) years in a well organized institutional Library.
  • Be Conversant with electronic archiving

Senior Library Assistant
Grade E/F

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent professional qualification from a recognized University.

In addition, applicants must:
  • Have post qualification working experience of at least five (5) years in a busy Library
  • Show evidence of computer literacy.
  • Those with a Higher National Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized Institution may also be considered.

Library Assistant
Grade C/D

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent professional qualification from a recognized University.

In addition, the applicants must:
  • Have post qualification working experience of at least three (3) years in a busy Library
  • Show evidence of computer literacy.
  • Those with a Higher National Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized Institution may also be considered.

Computer Technician
Grade C/D

Applicants must be holders of Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent from a recognized University.

In addition, they must:
  • Have post qualification working experience of at least three (3) years in a busy academic Library
  • Have ability to identify suitable technologies with a view to continually improve the effectiveness of the Library ICT system.
  • Have skills in network administration and website authoring tools such as HTML, Apache, PHP, MYSQL, Perl and Linux.
  • Be conversant with Integrated Library Management System such as KOHA.
  • Those with a Higher National Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized Institution may also be considered.

Computer Technician
Grade A/B

Applicants must be holders of KCSE C or KCE Division III and above. They must have professional qualification of a Diploma in Electrical and Electronics or Computer Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

In addition the applicants must:
  • Have post qualification working experience of at least three (3) years in a busy academic Library
  • Be conversant with Library Management Software and common packages and technologies used in information services.

Binder Technician
Grade A/B

Applicants must be holders of KCSE C or KCE Division III and above. They must have a Government Trade Test I in Book Binding or Print Finishing I, also be computer literate with three (3) years working experience.

Braille Typist
Grade III/IV

Applicants must be holders of KCSE D+ or KCE Division III and above. They must also have a certificate in Braille Transcription.

In addition the applicants must:
  • Have post qualification relevant working experience of at least three (3) years.
  • Show evidence of computer literacy
  • Evidence of knowledge of JAWS and DUXBERRY software will be an added advantage

Institute of Open, Distance & e-Learning (Kitui Campus)

Administrative Assistant
Grade C/D

Applicants must be holders of a University degree in Social Sciences/Public Administration.

Candidates with any other degree from a recognized University and a post-graduate Diploma in Public Administration/Management or CPS will also be considered.

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant experience in administration preferable at an institution of higher learning.

  • Demonstrate ability to plan/draw training programmes for the University teams
  • Show evidence of coaching at regional level.

Coach
Grade A/B

Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C and above.

In addition, applicants must:
  • Have at least three (3) years experience as a coach in University/Institution of Higher learning
  • Possess an advanced coaching Diploma from National continental/world sporting governing body
  • Demonstrate ability to plan/draw training programmes for the University teams
  • Show evidence of coaching at national level.

Life Guard
A/B

Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C and above.

In addition, applicants must:
  • Have three (3) years experience as a life-saver in an institution of higher learning or sports organization
  • Must possess a swimming instructor certificate
  • Must possess a certificate in life saving
  • Demonstrate ability to supervise swimming training sessions
  • Have a valid first Aid Certificate

Terms of Service:

Terms of service for teaching posts of lecturer and above include membership to a pension scheme, a generous medical scheme, housing allowance and commuting allowance.

Other posts will be on performance based two (2) year renewable contract plus gratuity at the end of the contract, a generous medical scheme, housing allowance and commuting allowance.
