Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) Jobs - Librarian, Accountant, Environmental Economist and Program Analyst


The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) is a public policy research Institute established to develop human and institutional capacities, by undertaking economic forecasting, policy analysis and research; contributing to the formulation of medium and long-term strategic perspectives for development of Kenya; and undertaking capacity building.

To meet its growing demand, the Institute invites qualified, experienced and dynamic candidates to fill the following positions.

Librarian

The Librarian will be responsible for overseeing the library operations, developing and maintaining high quality collections of relevant print and




electronic educational materials that support public policy research and analysis.

Candidates must have a Bachelors degree in Library and Information Sciences from a recognized university with at least 5 years' work experience in Library management preferably from an academic Institution at middle management/supervisory level.

Candidates with a masters degree in Library and Information Science will have an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishing and managing budget for library and information services.
  • Acquisition and selection of publications and related materials,
  • Developing and implementing appropriate library policies and procedures in keeping with industry best practice.
  • Preparing quarterly/annual reports and other reports related to library and information services, resources and activities.
  • Performing and supervising cataloguing, classification and indexing, print audio-visual and electronic resources and any other library materials using international standards.
  • Training library users to effectively search the Library catalogue, Internet and other electronic resources.
  • Providing an inter-library loan service for both book and audiovisual materials.
  • Contributing to the development of strategic plans for library and information resources.
  • Participating in book fairs and exhibitions, and network forums.
  • Maintaining a regularly updated distribution list for KIPPRA publications and preparing quarterly briefs on distribution of publications and feedback.


Assistant Accountant

The position will be required to provide support in the Finance Division by ensuring that accounting standards and practices are adhered to, payments processing, banking, assisting with preparation of quarterly and final accounts, generation of management reports and supporting financial audits.

Candidates must have a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance/Accounting from a recognized university, CPA II and at least 2 years' work experience. Those with experience in public sector accounting, project accounting and management of donor funds will have an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Accountant in achieving accurate and timely accounting information, sound financial controls and financial process improvements.
  • Working with the Accountant in the production of quarterly management accounts.
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register.
  • Preparing receipts and invoices.
  • Preparing and reconciling project accounts.
  • Maintaining integrity of the general ledger by ensuring that budgets, descriptions and codes are up to date and that accounts are reconciled and cleared when appropriate.

Environment for Development (EfD) - Kenya

EfD-Kenya is the centre for cutting-edge research and analysis in environmental and natural resource economics. EfD-Kenya is a collaborative project between KIPPRA, Gothenburg University and University of Nairobi, aimed at improving policy making in Kenya through high quality applied research in Resource and Environmental Economics.

EfD-Kenya is hosted at KIPPRA and is currently looking for suitable candidates to fill the following positions:

Environmental/Natural Resource Economist

The position involves conducting original policy relevant research on environment and natural resource policy issues and providing technical advice and assistance to policy makers and other parties.

This will lead to production of economic reports, journal publications and promoting consistency in the preparation and presentation of economic information for policy intervention. Specific research projects will be designed as appropriate to the selected candidate's expertise and interest and EfD's work plan and needs.

Applicants should have a PhD in Economics or a related field.

Benefit-cost analysis skills and research experience in environmental, natural resource, health economics or agricultural economics or related fields are required.

Areas of particular interest include technology change, sanitation, stated preference methods, general equilibrium modelling and program evaluation.

Program Assistant/Assistant Analyst

Duties for this position include but are not limited to the following: day-to-day activities of the office, assist with preparation of reports, foster interaction between academics and policy makers, conduct research and field work.

The successful applicant must posses MA/MSc in Economics, Natural Resources, Environment, Agricultural Economics or related fields from a recognized university.

In addition the successful candidate must have proven leadership abilities, excellent communication, planning, organizational and demonstrated management skills.

KIPPRA offers competitive terms and conditions of employment.

Successful candidates will be offered a 3-year contract, renewable on the basis of performance.
