The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is a pan-African non-governmental organisation headquartered in Nairobi, with a network of 35 National Chapters across Africa.

FAWE is a pioneer and leading African NGO promoting girls’ and women education in Africa.

FAWE is seeking to recruit a high caliber, results-oriented and dedicated professionals to join its dynamic team at its Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

Program Officer 
2 Positions

Under the supervision of the Senior Programme Coordinating Officer, s/he will be a member of the programme department team, working closely with
the M&E Officer, the Communication Officer, the support department, and designated FAWE National Chapters. A programme assistant supports all Programme Officers.

Job purpose:

To coordinate and support FAWE programmes and activities in several of FAWE National Chapters in line with FAWE strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities, especially in relation to designated National Chapters:
  • Contribute to FAWE RS ongoing programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation (Strategic Plan, Annual Work Programmes)
  • Contribute to the development of FAWE RS subsequent Strategic Plans, Annual Work Programmes, budgets and work plans
  • Provide technical support for FAWE National Chapters for capacity building in policy influencing, community advocacy, resource mobilisation, and PCM
  • Participate in proposal development for FAWE’s programme funding and review
  • Review project grants proposals received from FAWE National Chapters for their relevance, innovativeness and impact to FAWE’s mandate at country level, and provide input accordingly.
  • Monitor and document the achievements and impact of set targets in own programme activities.
  • Enhance smooth and regular information flow between the FAWE headquarters and the National Chapters.
  • In collaboration with the Communication officer and the M&E officer, prepare regular technical and progress reports on National Chapters programmatic activities and status and achievements made in girls’ education.
  • Network with other organisations in respect to programmes in support of FAWE strategic objectives and programmes on female education in general.
  • Any other tasks required for smooth management of FAWE’s work programme
Job requirements

Qualification
 
  • A Masters degree in Education, gender, Development Studies, or other relevant field
  • Proven competence in written and spoken French
  • Formal training or certification in Project Cycle management (PCM) would be a plus
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in programme development and implementation in an NGO or a development agency, including experience in policy influencing, community advocacy, resource mobilization, and Project Cycle management (PCM)
  • Good understanding of education and gender issues, challenges and trends within Africa and internationally
  • Experience participating in gender mainstreaming processes in organizations or countries
  • Experience in capacity building of local (network) partners preferable

HR & Training Officer 
1 Position

Under the supervision of the Senior Finance and Administration Officer, the HR and Training Officer will work closely with the Programmes, Communication and Monitoring and evaluation Sections to ensure that all training needs are identified, planned for and delivered in timely and effective manner.

Job Purpose:
 
  • To handle the HR function at the Regional Secretariat and support National Chapter in strengthening their HR procedures and processes
  • To enhance the skills, knowledge and motivation of FAWE network staff in order to increase productivity and meet FAWE’s Strategic Objectives
Key Responsibilities

Human Resource Function
 
  • Maintain and update functional and efficient human resources management and administration systems, processes, and procedures
  • Ensure accurate staff tracking and record-keeping, enhanced internal controls, and compliance with legal, labour and immigration requirements
  • Initiate and successfully handle contracts, visas, passes, permit renewals, leave requests, training requests, insurance, pension and other required paperwork as relevant to staff, consultants and interns
  • Coordinate recruitments and conduct induction/orientation sessions for recruited staff, consultants and interns
  • Identify training and capacity development needs at the Regional Secretariat and at the National Chapters and work with team leaders, supervisors and staff to devise individual learning plans
  • Execute any other assignments as directed by Management
Training Function 
  • Coordinate all training events and meetings organized by FAWE for its staff, partners, resource person and members who support the delivery of its programmes nationally and regionally
  • Collaboratively design, develop and effectively cost training programmes based on organizational priorities and individual needs and produce in-house training materials where necessary
  • Work with specialists to commission the development of user-friendly training materials
  • Establish and nurture a culture of e-learning/training and develop FAWE’s online training portfolio
  • Ensure statutory training requirements are met (fire prevention and fighting, first aid, work safety)
  • Coordinate the evaluation of training and development programmes
  • Keep up to date with developments in the field of HR, including employment laws, immigration processes,
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of training, including e-learning processes, methods and opportunities
Job Requirements

Education and Training
 
  • A university degree in Human Resources Management, Training and Development or a related field
  • Additional professional training in one or the other field from a recognized training institution
  • Knowledge of adult learning styles, interpersonal communication and facilitation methods/ techniques
  • Proficiency in French a strong plus
Experience 
  • 3-5 years experience in HR management and coordination of training programmes, particularly in the NGO sector or in development agencies
  • Demonstrated experience in handling personnel management, performance management processes and immigration procedures.
  • Significant experience facilitating hands-on training and presenting in front of individuals and groups
