Local Operative Buyer

Job Purpose:

It is the responsibility of the Local Operative Buyer to administer the transactional requirements of purchase order creation and progress monitoring.

The position holder is responsible for the ordering of materials and services based on global and local contracts to provide the affiliate with all required material and services at the right time and the right quantity in compliance with procurement standards and rules.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of global and local procurement principles and the application of standardized procurement processes, methods, performance measurement, and systems
  • Based on the agreed targets with the Procurement Manager, the jobholder ensures the target achievement for its dedicated category (e. g. savings and payment terms)
  • Build, document, and update local market and product knowledge continuously
  • Support requisltioner in creation of purchase requisitions in case of queries
  • Check purchase requisition concerning conformity with rules and availability of procurement contracts
  • Raise purchase orders based on strategic framework (e. g. contracts, order book, catalogues) in the ERP system
  • Archive documentation in accordance with defined procurement principles
  • Manage day to day supplier communication at affiliate level
  • Carry out and evaluate inquiries for demand defined as "locally sourced"
  • Liaise with end users to address delivery queries, quality issues, etc.
  • Report delivery delays
  • Handling of supply bottlenecks
  • Clarification of invoice/ payment queries raised by accounts payable
  • Monitor progress of orders and secure availability of required products or services
  • Continuous performance measurement
  • Monitor contract compliance and volume development against forecast
Knowledge and Skills Requirement:
  • University degree (preferably business related) 
  • Attained or studying towards CIPS Diploma 
  • A member of KISM 
  • Knowledge of Procurement ethics as defined in the procurement and disposal Act
  • Minimum of two years purchasing experience in the (local) supply market preferably in a FMCG
  • Basic skills of project management, presentation techniques, and moderation 
  • Advanced commercial, negotiation, and contracting skills
  • Decision-making ability 
  • Honest, Goal-oriented, initiative, analytical skills, team-oriented 
  • Age 27 years and below
