Accountant and Communications Officer Job Opportunities - Institute for Culture and Ecology (ICE)

ICE is a Kenyan organization that promotes endogenous development through use of indigenous knowledge in environmental management, food security and livelihoods improvement.

ICE is seeking qualified persons to fill the following positions:

Accountant

Overall responsibilities:
  • Implement, monitor and review as appropriate the finance and human resource policies and procedures
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management, board and funders
  • Coordinate the process of financial planning, budgeting and control
  • Recording of financial transactions in the relevant books of accounts
  • Be in-charge of day to day running of finance and human resource functions
  • External audit preparation, coordination of audit process and




    implementation of audit recommendations
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements are met
  • Train partner community groups on basic accounting procedures
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance or any other relevant areas
  • Be in possession of CPA (2) or equivalent qualifications
  • Experience working with computerized accounting systems preferably QUICK BOOKS
  • Working knowledge of computer applications
  • 3 years experience in similar position in an NGO, preferably in grants management
  • Excellent analytical, report writing and leadership skills
Communications Officer

Overall Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing the organization's communication strategy and materials
  • Responsible for ensuring effective and timely communication of relevant information to specialist groups, other organizations in the same field and the general public
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a university degree (Communications discipline) from a recognized university. Those without a degree but have compensating work experience in similar positions may also apply.
  • Minimum of 2 years similar-work experience
  • Computer literate with MS Word Suite and good IT skills
  • Good writing skills (English and Kiswahili) with editorial flair and an eye on the target audience
  • Able to manage a website
