5 Star Hotel Construction Project in Upper Hill Nairobi Jobs in Kenya: Architectural Clerk of Works and Inspector of Works Jobs

Our client has the following vacancies to be filled on a project to construct a 5-Star Hotel in Nairobi’s Upper Hill Area
Architectural Clerk of Works

The duties and responsibilities of the Clerks of Works shall include but not limited to:
  • Supervise construction works activities in accordance with the Project drawings and technical specifications and as directed by the Project Consultants.
  • Identify the sections/areas that are ready for


    inspection/testing and advise the consultants accordingly
  • Supervise collection of test samples and witness testing, as may be required, of concrete works and any other materials for incorporation into permanent works.
  • Ensure that the quality of materials used on the works meet the technical specifications and as per samples approved by the consultants.
  • Study drawings issued to site and alert the consultants on any matters arising including any information required by the contractor that may delay construction works
  • Assist in carrying out joint measurement of quantities with the contractor
  • Assist in compilation of site records and data as required by the consultants
  • Prepare and submit to the consultants daily, weekly and/or monthly progress reports as may be required.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Have a Higher National Diploma/Ordinary Diploma or equivalent in Engineering or Building construction
  • Have at least 1 0 years experience in supervision of building construction and at least 3 of these on a Hotel or related hospitality project.
  • Have demonstrable knowledge in construction technology in civil & structural works and be able to interpret specifications and conditions of contract. Basic knowledge of the mechanical & "Electrical building works will also be required.
  • Be able to interpret and critique architectural and engineering construction drawings.
  • Be able to interpret and critique project schedules/programs.
  • Be sufficiently aware of and able to enforce construction site safety requirements imposed by the contract, safety regulations and NEMA.
  • Be proficient in the use of MS Office Computer packages such MS Word. Excel Power Point etc
  • Should be able to work independently and have demonstrable skills in oral communication, report writing and co-ordination of project teams
  • Ability to use Computer Aided Drafting Software would be an added advantage.
2. Mechanical, Electrical and Other Building Services Inspector of Works

The duties and responsibilities of the Building Services Inspector of Works shall be similar to those of the Architectural Clerk of Works but limited to Mechanical and Electrical Building Services, covering power, lighting, ICT, refrigeration, ventilation and air-conditioning installations, fire protection and plumbing and drainage.
The preferred candidates should meet the following requirements;
  • Have a Higher National Diploma/Ordinary Diploma or equivalent in either mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Have at least 10 years experience in supervision of the installation of building services such as electrical & mechanical works, ICT & Data, Audio-Visio, BMS, etc.
  • Involvement in Hotel construction and ability to use Computer Aided Drafting Software and certification from relevant statutory bodies would be added advantages.
  • Be able to interpret and critique Building Services engineering construction drawings and specifications.
  • Be able to interpret and critique project schedules/programs.
  • Be sufficiently aware of and able to enforce construction site safety requirements imposed by the contract and safety regulations.
  • Be proficient in the use of MS Office Computer packages such MS Word, Excel, Power Point etc.
  • Should be able to work independently and have demonstrable skills in oral communication, report writing, and co-ordination of project teams.
