The Tea Research Foundation of Kenya is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture with its Headquarters in Kericho and whose Mission is “To generate and disseminate knowledge and technology through innovative research for improved production, processing, value addition and marketing of Kenyan tea while conserving the environment”.

In order to effectively execute its mandate and mission, TRFK wishes to competitively fill the following positions with qualified Kenyan citizens:

1. Research Officer (Food Scientist)
Ref: TRFK/FS

Reporting to the Head Chemist, the Food Scientist will be responsible for formulating, initiating, planning and implementing research projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and conduct market driven research to generate technologies in tea product developments, diversification and value addition.
  • Participation in formulation of research proposals and implementation and coordination of research activities.
  • Carrying out analytical work and offering training and advisory services to stakeholders.
  • Preparation and communication of research findings – reports and technical/scientific publications.
  • Resource management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master of Science (MSc) degree in Food Science.
  • A minimum of at least three (3) years proven research experience.
  • At least an author of a refereed journal article in addition to one of the following:-
  1. Be the first author of a verifiable paper in a conference/symposium with proceedings.
  2. Be at least a second author of a relevant book chapter
  • Good research, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstration of ability to apply good judgement in the context of assigned projects, and be able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Proficiency in computer packages.
  • Practical experience in value addition and product diversification will be a strong advantage.

2. Human Resource Officer
Ref: TRFK/HRO

Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager, the Human Resource Officer will be responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of sound human resource Management and Administrative policies and facilitate their implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in formulating and implementation of Human resource management policies.
  • Effectively manage labour laws and other relevant statutes.
  • Representing the Foundation in industrial relations disputes and CBA negotiations and ensure compliance with any employee agreements.
  • Assist in planning human resources development, performance management and career management process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree in social sciences, human resource or related field.
  • A post graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management/Development.
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience with proven work performance which must include successful implementation of a Human Resource Management strategy in research/training establishment, on the basis of an approved staff establishment (SE) document.
  • Proficiency in computer packages.
  • Possession of a Masters degree in Human Resource Management/Development and/or Certified Public Secretary of Kenya (CPS(K)) will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to communicate in sign language will be an added advantage.
