Objective of the organisation
Terre des Hommes Netherlands through the Regional Office East Africa supports project partners in the execution of projects for deprived children in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania with the aim ‘to improve the quality of life of deprived children by ensuring their rights’.
Objective of the position
The aim of the position is to assist in ensuring that Terre des Hommes Netherlands project partners in Turkana and the Terre des Hommes ‘Uzima Air Medical Services’ (AMS) project deliver effective and efficient services to children in need, which contribute to the mission of Terre des Hommes Netherlands.
Position within the organisation
The Project Officer - Turkana will be based in Lodwar (Turkana District) and is responsible to Regional Director of Terre des Hommes Netherlands Regional office for East Africa in Nairobi, and will liaise on a day to day basis with the Programme Coordinator for Kenya (based in Nairobi).
Responsibilities and Results
Regional Office support functions
- Developing country/thematic policies
- Advice on decision-making regarding project applications.
- Preparation of proposal applications for funding
- Monitoring and Documentation
Terre des Hommes Lodwar Office related:
- Administrative and Financial management:.
- Budgeting and Financial reporting
- Statutory Deductions
- Property and fixed assets
- Proposing improvements with regard to administrative management.
Project Partner support functions
- Advisory services to project partners
- Safeguarding project quality
- Promote a supportive partnership environment
- Guidance and accountability information
Knowledge and experience
- At least three years experience in a similar position
- Knowledge of development cooperation
- Knowledge about Child Rights based programming, Convention on the Rights of the Child and Kenyan legislation related to the protection of the rights of the child
- Knowledge of project planning and project cycle management
- Knowledge of financial management
- Knowledge of project management and the political, religious and social structures of Turkana district
- Knowledge of the mission, objectives, structure, theme, sector and region plans and the requirements for Terre des Hommes project partners and programs.
- Clarity of expression for drafting concentration area plans and advice regarding counterpart policy
- Social skills for active participation in a team and for further improvement of team performance
- At least a minimum of 5 years experience as a driver on EA roads
- Skilled in information analysis and report writing
- Skilled in computer use and computer based data processing
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written
