Purpose of the Position

You will be responsible for the overall development, management, planning and delivery of Accelerated Child Survival and Development (ACSD) program of UNICEF Somalia, one of the two program thrust of UNICEF in Somalia.You will provide strategic leadership in delivery of health targets of the United Nations Transitional Plan (UNTP) and undertake innovative strategies in the sector to effectively respond to emergency and developmental needs of Somali children and women in the environment of weak civil governance and complex emergencies.

You will coordinate the health targets of the UNTP with WHO, UNFPA, UNAIDS and WFP, and will work with WHO on delivery of the ACSD joint program aiming to reach 1.5 million Somali children of under five age with high-impact life saving interventions and 1.5 million reproductive age women with basic preventive measures.

Key Expected Results

· Provide technical leadership and guidance to UNICEF zonal offices in reaching 1.5 million children below age five with high impact child survival interventions including EPI, micronutrient supplementation, malaria control, prevention and care for common childhood illnesses, and emergency nutrition response. Ensure exchange of information and experiences, and follow up actions to accelerate delivery of Child Survival interventions and achieve program objectives.
· Supervise the activities leading to the completion of the Situation Analysis and its periodic update. Formulate program goals and objectives and develop strategies for improving program delivery with an emphasis on community participation and health system development. Ensure health and nutrition inputs to the CPD, annual work plans and ProMS related activities.
· Conduct field visits to zonal offices and program sites to ensure guidance, feedback and program modifications as appropriate.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

· Advanced university degree in medicines or related field i.e. public health and nutrition.
· Ten years of progressive experiences at national and international level in program management and planning.
· Knowledge of latest development and technology in the health and nutrition field.
· Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and manage programs as well as transfer of skills to others.
· Leadership skills, effective communication and negotiation including advocacy skills.
· Analytical ability, maturity, ability to work in a team, copes under stressful and difficult work condition. Ability to work in an international or multicultural environment .
· Fluency in English and another UN language is required.
